Wynwood Eats

Similar to my blog, Chow Down Chi Town, Wynwood Eats records my experiences, recommendations, and content created around Miami Florida’s Art District, Wynwood. Living in Fort Myers I get over to Miami pretty regularly. When I’m not over on the east coast, I’m searching Insta and chatting with local bloggers about new and exciting things happening over there and where to go next! Whether it's discovering a new photo-worthy restaurant, a pop-up festival, or stumbling across a freshly painted mural, Wynwood has something for everyone. So if you’re in the area or coming from out of town, make Wynwood a stop on your list and check out some of my recommendations, you won’t be disappointed!

This post is not sponsored, I was not monetarily paid to visit. These are simply my opinions on their service, ambiance, & of course, FOOD.

So here you have it, in no order what-so-ever, a running blog of where I’ve been in Wynwood. Updated, well.. Every time I go to Wynwood!

You can click on the map followed by each description to be located to each business. You’re welcome.

bubba tea n’ smoothies

@bubbateamiami

2617 N Miami Ave, Miami, Florida

  • $, Order ahead recommended, Easy to find location, street parking, Order-at-counter

Okay yum?? Have you had boba tea?? If so, where have you been hiding it? And why have I not been on this trend..? Seriously obsessed after having some at Bubba’s! I got to try lychee jelly, popping boba, and my favorite, tapioca boba! I also got to try milk tea and fruit tea. I discovered there’s quite a difference between the two and I ended up preferring milk tea because it’s creamier! Bubba’s has a really cool scrapbook wall, bright colorful murals, and located right on your way into Wynwood! Pro-tip, if you’re always running in a rush like me you might want to call in ahead, all orders are made at the time of purchase and some serious love goes into Benin, the owner’s, creations! I got the “Three Combo” - Coffee, mocha, black tea topped with black pearls and cream. My friend Rixie got the “Ahola” - Mango and pineapple, Jasmine green tea fused with mango stars.

WORLD FAMOUS HOUSE OF MAC

@worldfamoushouseofmac

2055 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33127

  • $$, Limited seating, Order-at-counter, Open late, multiple locations

If you’re a mac n’ cheese lover look no further than House of Mac. Don’t just take it from me. All the greats like Kid Cudi, Asap Ferg, and Dwyane Wade have all visited this crowd favorite. Whether you go at 12 p.m. or 12 a.m. there is a wait out the door and around the corner. Let me be honest, seating is limited, the mac cooking makes it a little toasty inside, and its tight quarters but the food is so good it makes it all worth it. Visit their new space in the Miami Brightline station for all the mac you can handle. To all my true foodies, don’t pass this spot up. A MUST DO, in the Wynwood area! Trust me, I would know. I get it every time I’m in town. :’)

Coyo Taco

@coyotaco

2300 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33127

  • $, Quick & easy, busy at times, salsa bar, pop-up club in the back, open late

Coyo is located right on the main street of Wynwood and is a quick and easy way to get food that works for everyone! I go to Coyo a lot to grab food to take to a brewery nearby. Yes, you can take food to breweries, it’s encouraged!! I also stop by Coyo late at night when things are closing. It’s an upbeat environment with music playing, lines out the door, and sometimes includes a pop-up bar that will make you a drink while you wait in line! There's also a pop-up club in the back that people like Travis Scott just stop by and perform at sometimes… NBD. So about the food, their tacos are YUM, especially al pastor. Their chips are like a dollar and the salsa bar is a must!! So essentially, Coyo is the perfect spot if you’re taking food on the go, need to eat something quick, or have vegan friends!

Mr. Kream is good stop for a sweet treat and good vibes in the Wynwood area. With lots of space, arcade games, and late night hours, it’s a fun spot to hangout! They have unique ice cream flavors, new creations all the time, and oh yeah, a SPRINKLES CHAIR!!!! Literally a chair with a print that looks like sprinkles, it’s adorable. Because I was stuffed beyond belief by the time we made it here I only got to try one creation. But O M G, 2 Live Blue, that’s the name of the ice cream flavor, was a delicious mess.

Palmar

@palmarmiami

180 NW 29th Street, Miami, Florida

  • $, great date night spot, Modern chinese, limited spacing, street parking

Voted #1 chinese by @timeoutmiami, Palmar does not disappoint. I have to say this is the best chineese food I’ve ever had, and I promise I’m not just saying that. Maybe I haven’t been to that many gourmet chineese restaurants, I also have never been to China, but I imagine Palmar is about as good as it gets. The one dish you MUST try if you make it in is the vegan chow fun. I’m not kidding when I say I’m sitting here typing about it and drooling.. My mouth waters thinking about the noodles in that dish. TDF. (to die for) Yes I just made that up. its fine. Also have to write about the desert they brought out, never heard of it but I was eager to try and I’m glad I did! It was their 5-spice egg custard with coconut, chantilly, kiwi marmalade, and ginger crumble. They took the time to hand make each layer of the dish and the love that goes into it… well, you can taste it. And believe me, it taste amazing. The atmosphere is really chill and I recommend this place for a date night because of how intimate and cozy it is.

Yoko Matcha

@yokomatcha

2211 NW 2nd ave, Miami, Florida

  • $, Day-time experience, Insta-worthy, seating available

Ahhh, Yoko! My first time ever having matcha. If I learned one thing, it’s that I’m probably not a matcha person. Not to say it wasn’t good, but my taste buds are wired for espresso. That being said, I still tried it out. I got to try two different kinds of matcha tea and the one I preferred was milk-based and made the drink creamy. It's the pink one pictured here! I also tried the green one, which to me taste like straight green tea and, like I said, coffee person. If you don’t really know about matcha, let me break it down for you. Matcha is made from shade-grown tea leaves. Leaves that go through literally a ten-step process to be ready. Those needy leaves. At the end of the tea leaf drying stage, the leaves crumble and become what is called “tencha”. The tencha is then de-veined, de-stemmed, and stone-ground to a fine, bright green powder, known as matcha. The flavor of matcha is dominated by bt its amino acids. The highest grades of matcha have more intense sweetness and deeper flavor than the standard or coarser grades of tea harvested later in the year. Some benefits of matcha include, metabolism boost, no-jitter energy, and rich in antioxidants. Head over to Yoko and let me know what you think!

Leal Bistro

@leal_bistro

2700 N Miami Ave, Miami, Florida

  • $$, must-do, Venezuelan CUISINE, Perfect for Brunch, outstanding service, Unique EXPERIENCE

Edgar Leal, this is my love note to you! I can’t speak highly enough about the incredible experience I had while visiting your restaurant. If you’re in the Wynwood area, Leal Bistro is a must-do. Never in all my food blogging have I ever had an owner wait on me. Have a drink with them? Sure. Introduce themselves, explain things on the menu? Standard. Had the owner bring out every single dish and tell me the back story behind it? Never. This experience was truly magical. Not only did I have the fantastic opportunity of trying Chef Edgar's handcrafted dishes, but I was lucky enough to learn about each one and how he crafted the recipe. I honestly can’t tell you what’s better, the food or Chef’s stories. They’re honestly both decadent. Chef Edgar Leal, thank you, thank you, thank you. From the bottom of my heart, this was an experience that went above and beyond my expectations. I know what you’re thinking… Cora, you’re a food blogger. Of course, everything was perfect and Chef spoke with you… The yelp reviews from others say differently! Hell, take it from the Wall Street Journal. Raymond Sokolov comments, “His food (Edgar Leal) is literally a global phenomenon..” Food blogger or not, if Chef Edgar is around he’s eager to converse with you. Ask him about his shrimp ceviche dish and how he came up with the perfect portion of each ingredient, it’s a story worth hearing! But don’t take it from me, stop into Leal Bistro for yourself. Tell them Cora sent you. Such a great experience I had to add double the photos. Enjoy. Wait, wait, wait. Before I go. Let me tell you that the pork dish you see here is prepared for three days. Get it. Get the pork. Ok, ok. Enjoy. :)
